Entrepreneurship comes in all shapes and sizes, and has been around for centuries. Most of our daily actions are entrepreneurial, whether it is supporting our families, playing sports or competitions, or at work. It’s difficult to define what entrepreneurship or an entrepreneur is. Passion, tenacity, conviction, self belief are traits of some entrepreneurs, creative, motivating, visionary are others.
The Middle East has had its fair share of successful entrepreneurs, although you hardly hear about them. The founders of Zawya, Aramex, Bayt.com and Maktoob have all developed real companies out of an idea through their entrepreneurial instincts and actions. As it stands today, there is a growing need for more entrepreneurs in the region to help develop sustainable and successful businesses that employ more people and diversify the local Arab economies. Budding entrepreneurs are facing many challenges and need guidance and support to turn their idea into reality and success.
Tandem Partners have developed a series of entrepreneurship workshops dedicated to educating people on how to start and grow their business. The introductory workshop was launched Wednesday 16th of June at The Shelter in Al Quoz, with the second session on Wednesday July 14th. The workshops will focus on the following topics:
- Evaluating your idea: helping you identify issues with your idea and ways to make it better before launching your business.
- Writing your business plan: putting your idea on paper and coming up with a clear plan for you and your business
- Identifying the appropriate legal structure: choosing the right option for incorporating your company.
- Understanding the numbers: getting to grips with the financials of your business. Understanding cash flow and profitability.
- Getting funding from investors: presenting your plan to investors and raising money to start or expand your business.
- Building the right team: identifying the right resources you need for your business.
- Marketing on a budget: creating awareness without spending large amounts of capital
- Protecting your idea: understanding intellectual property protection and confidentiality.
- Growing your business: identifying the right strategies to grow your business.
Starting a business is a difficult task, especially in a country where the legal framework is somewhat unclear and the setup process is expensive. The idea of the workshops is to support the local community with education and mentorship, with the aim of helping people develop their own business and become an entrepreneur.
Whether you have an idea, are looking to start a business or have an existing business up and running, these workshops are for you.
